I'm running Excel 2019 (version 16.44) and am seeing various cases of the screen flashing or going partially/fully white before coming back to the original screen after commanding some PRC operation, such as Create Report, Import or Export. Is this an indication of a problem with PRC or my system configuration? As far as I can tell the operations complete normally but the flashing screens are bothersome and seem like a problem with the tool.

There are several known quirks with Excel 2019 for Macs:

  • Following the generation of PDF reports, the Report page is scrolled down about 250 rows so that all you see is an empty spreadsheet. Excel is ignoring all statements in the Create Report macro that are attempting to prevent and/or compensate for this. It turns out that Excel doesn’t exhibit this behavior if the row and column headings are made visible, which the user can do via Excel’s preferences menu. If this does happen on your configuration, all you have to do is manually scroll back to the top of the page.
  • During the generation of PDF reports, the screen flashes blank and changes multiple times before finally coming back to the original Report page. Excel is again ignoring all statements in the Create Report macro that attempt to prevent screen updates while the reports are being generated. This is aesthetically unpleasing but there’s actually nothing wrong with the calculator and it has no effect on the PDF reports being generated.
  • During imports the screen flashes and changes multiple times before finally coming back to the Home page. Excel is again ignoring all statements in the Import macro that attempt to prevent screen updates while the import is being done. This is aesthetically unpleasing but there’s actually nothing wrong with the calculator and it has no effect on the actual import process.
  • During exports the entire screen goes white before coming back to the Home page. This is yet another case where Excel is ignoring all statements in the Export macro that attempt to prevent screen updates while the export is being done. This is aesthetically unpleasing but there’s actually nothing wrong with the calculator and it has no effect on the actual export process.
