What is the best tabular review screen to get a yearly summary or overview of cashflows within the plan, in terms of source accounts being used to fund essential and variable expenses each year? Is this the purpose of the Cash Flow screen? It seems to focus on the cash account in particular, but maybe I'm just not understanding it?
The Cash Flow Statement is a good place to start. Generally, in Pralana expenses are paid from the Cash account, and usually** not directly from another account. Spendable income and other cash inflows add to the cash account balance. If and when there is a cash shortage, the Cash Flow Statement shows from which account(s) funds are withdrawn to cover the shortage (unscheduled withdrawals).
**There are a few exceptions:
- Annuities may be purchased from a specific account (shown on Cash Flow > Annuity Purchases)
- College expenses funded by 529 plans have the tuition directly from the 529 plan (shown on Cash Flow > Withdrawals)
Also, you may define Scheduled Withdrawals from most accounts in an amount and timing that will indirectly cover certain expenses if the destination account is the Cash account.
