Some recent (8/2/24) information: https://www.healthsystemtracker.org/brief/how-does-medical-inflation-compare-to-inflation-in-the-rest-of-the-economy/
#Cumulative percent change in Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) for medical care and for all goods and services, January 2000 - June 2024
Note also from the graph in the article:
Time covered: 24.5 Years
Medical Care Inflation: up 121.3% since 2000 (almost linear) ---> 121.3/24.5 = 4.95%/yr (~ slope)
All Goods and Services Inflation: up 86.1% since 2000 (not very linear due to Pandemic+QEx...but suppose it is) ---> 86.1/24.5 = 3.51%/yr
Rate Difference: 4.95 - 3.51 = 1.44%
Finally, comparison of different measures of Medical Care inflation over time is interesting (CPI vs PPI vs PCE).
And here are the recent results from CMS. Similar conclusions over the next 10 years as I read it.
Healthcare spending growth rate: 5.6%
Economy growth rate (GDP): 4.3%
@mullins343 Hi Craig, I apologize for the slow response. Pralana Online adjusts IRMAA brackets at the general inflation rate and I'll probably make a corresponding change in PRC2025 (Excel).
